Here are three different themed sounds I came up with for the Brammo start-up noise. Check them out:

Inspiration: Lightbike scene from Tron

In terms of ease of use, I bet the lightbikes in the film Tron are as easy to use as a Brammo powercycle. You just hop on and twist the accelerator.

In terms of design, Craig Bramscher wanted to stay away from making his bike look all futuristic, and instead was inspired by classic motorcycle designs — a good thing.

However, you wonder if we’ll ever see a special edition Tron bike complete with LED effects, or maybe inspiration for an iphone game or menu screen. It would be a geek’s dream come true.

On Any Sunday (1971) on Hulu

Bruce Brown the filmmaker who gave us 1966’s Endless Summer, the quintessential surfing documentary, unveiled On any Sunday, a documentary about motorcycle racing five years later. It’s available in its entirety on Hulu.

on any sunday endless summer

Both films helped popularize both respective sports in the US. Sunday was nominated for an Oscar, and it went on to generate a lot more riding enthusiasts based on all the fun to be had in the film.

Here’s a somewhat campy clip of legendary stuntrider Steve McQueen, doing some crucial powerslides:

My First Time

When I first heard about Brammo I thought, I have to check this out. A few days later it pulled into our parking lot and those who wanted got to take it for a spin.

It’s my turn to ride. I’m nervous- just like trying anything new. Thoughts flood my mind: Will I be able to reach the ground? At barely 5’3” this is a typical problem I incur. How heavy is it? Will I be able to pull it up from the kickstand? Ok- never mind all of that, just go. I step over-hey I can touch the ground! Grab the handlebars tightly and pull up slowly- wow a lot lighter than I expected, I can do this no problem. Now all that’s left is to go. Slowly turning the handgrip I take off. Ok ok, doing good… curiosity and exhilaration set in and I turn the grip harder. The silent torque from this machine is amazing. Oh geez here comes a corner… with ease I maneuver the bike around the parking lot avoiding cars and other obstacles.

A few laps and its unfortunately time to give someone else a try. I reluctantly return to the starting point with a huge grin on my face. The best part: that big goofy grin is what every rider had in common.

Brammo Enertia: Design Inspired by 60s Cafe Racers?

The photos online of the Enertia almost don’t do it justice. You have to get on one to truly see what a bad ass design it really is.

It looks like the naked bikes that have had much success in Europe as of late, or better yet, a cafe racer. The cafe racer design was big in the 60s among British biker gangs– who were really just a bunch of kids, don’t think organized crime gang.. Imagine groups of rockers on old racing bikes would barrel down the cobbled streets of 1960s London searching for their arch enemy: the Vespa-riding Mods. Wild stuff, British counterculture.

That all said, let’s take a look at some hot photos of cafe racers courtesy of caferace.com.
